Bio

Alex Busby Smith is a bassist, educator and producer.
He grew up in the outskirts of Philadelphia in a town called Berwyn.
He was introduced to piano at the age of 5 and picked up the cello in 3rd grade.
While in middle school, the conductor teaching the orchestra heard Alex plucking
rock songs on his cello between pieces.  On the last day of school he approached
Alex and told him, “I hear you between songs.  You know there’s a better
instrument for what you’re doing. It’s called the bass guitar.”  He was 11 years old
at the time and had never heard of the bass guitar.  He quickly told his older
brother who took him to see Victor Wooten live in concert.  Alex’s parents
bought him a bass guitar for his 12th birthday and he never looked back.

Alex went on to attend Berklee College of Music and graduated Magna
Cum Laude in 2008.  He spent another 2 years in Boston playing with
various members of the faculty from Berklee and New England
Conservatory including Bob Pilkington, Norm Zocher, Darrell Katz and Tiger Okoshi.
